I am a fine artist and researcher with a practice rooted in experimentation and inquiry. My creative process revolves around exploring the materiality of paint—form, texture, and colour—through in-depth studies that inform my larger works. My Fine Art degree provided a solid foundation, but it is through years of continued experimentation that I have developed my own visual language.
A significant aspect of my work focuses on themes of femininity, girlhood, and the female gaze, particularly leaning into my own femininity as a source of strength and inspiration. I create large-scale abstract paintings alongside detailed figurative works, both informed by carefully staged photoshoots. These photoshoots allow me to capture subtle emotions and moments, serving not merely as reference points but as integral parts of my practice that enable me to explore and refine my visual interpretation of identity. My works take months to finalise, featuring a thick impasto texture and no single focal point. Through this lens, I celebrate the complexity of femininity, challenging stereotypes and reclaiming narratives often overlooked in the art world. The bold colours and dynamic brushstrokes in my work create layers that convey the multifaceted nature of these themes, inviting multiple interpretations. I produce my own paint and apply it using a multi-layered technique to emphasise the material's physicality. This method enhances the rich textures and depth within each piece, inviting viewers to engage with the work in a tactile manner. I deliberately avoid blending strokes, creating a dynamic rhythm that guides the eye across the canvas, revealing the intricate layers and details. In addition to painting, I experiment with transforming paint into sculptural forms, adding a three-dimensional aspect to my practice. These paint sculptures retain the vibrancy and texture of my paintings, offering a new way for the material to be experienced. My work is a continual exploration of identity in today’s world, pushing the boundaries of paint while finding ways to communicate personal and cultural narratives through material and form. I strive to create art that transcends expectations and trends, celebrating femininity and the diverse expressions of womanhood. |
